How it works

Extra practice for Pinewood Algebra 1 (Mx. Rose, Martin-Gay Algebra 1), built around two goals: getting stronger at word problems, and not forgetting earlier chapters before quizzes.

10
units from the class syllabus
47
lessons (textbook sections)
129
skills, 52 of them word problems
355
verified practice questions so far

Follows the class syllabus

The course is broken down from Mx. Rose's syllabus and the textbook into units (chapters), lessons (textbook sections) and skills, the specific things a quiz question tests, like “two vehicles travelling in the same or opposite directions”. Every practice question is tagged with exactly one skill, so progress is tracked skill by skill.

Daily practice with spaced review

  • About 30 minutes a day: 12–15 questions from lessons already covered in class.
  • About 60% are word problems, the area she most wants to improve.
  • A missed question comes back a day or two later. After she gets it right, that skill is reviewed again after 3, 7, 14 and then 30 days, so earlier chapters stay fresh before pop quizzes and tests.
  • Any lesson can also be practised on its own, for example the night before a quiz.

Real problems, typed answers

  • Every question is free response: no multiple choice, so the answer can't be guessed or worked backwards from options.
  • Each question asks for one answer, in a stated form (“as a reduced fraction”, “in hours”).
  • After answering she sees a full worked solution. Word-problem solutions always start by defining the variable and writing the equation, since setting up is the skill being practised.

Respecting the class AI policy

  • The syllabus allows AI for extra practice, review and study materials, and not for assignments or assessments. This app only ever shows its own practice questions; it cannot be used to solve homework.
  • Problems assigned as homework are never included. Questions are modelled on the style of her class quizzes, so practice feels like the real thing, but never copy a quiz or test problem.
  • Questions are drafted with AI and then checked automatically: every answer is recomputed by a script, and questions that break the format rules are rejected before they reach her.
